Introduction to KEEPS Sanitation (Waste Management)
This division forms the backbone of KEEPS dedication to public health, urban hygiene, and ecological sustainability. By focusing on efficient and systematic waste handling.
KEEPS operates under a formal Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with the Hargeisa Municipality. Its services are legally governed by a concession agreement and licensed under No. 33, issued by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism. KEEPS is responsible for solid waste management in Kodbur and Gacmo Dheere Districts, the largest and most densely populated areas of Hargeisa City.
The Waste Management and Sanitation Division currently serves all resident in I.koodbur and Gacmo Dheere Districts of which include, Internally Displaced Person (IDP) households – Residential communities – Small and medium-sized businesses – Hospitals and healthcare facilities – Restaurants and food vendors – Public and private institutions.
The range of services provided under this division includes: – Daily door-to-door garbage collection – Street sweeping and road sanitation – Safe transportation and disposal of general waste – Collection and disposal of hazardous materials, including animal carcasses – Provision of waste bins and temporary collection points
The work of this division is significantly improving urban cleanliness, reducing disease outbreaks associated with poor sanitation, and contributing to a healthier overall environment. KEEPS also conducts regular community education campaigns to encourage waste sorting, recycling, and safe disposal practices among residents.
